Hintertux summer skiing 2012
This is post is best read with Georg Thorogood & The Destroyers rocking in the background (sorry if you can't hear it, GEMA sucks, find a proxy):
Last weekend in July 2012. It's +35 centigrade on the back yard so why not wax the skis and prepare the edges. It's been a few months since they were in use the last time.
And head down to the Hintertux glacier.
As the picture shows, someone has lost the dreads and is looking for a real job.
From summer...
to winter in a few minutes. Ok, the glacier snow is not exactly white anymore but it will do.
Early morning T-bar.
And off we go!
The tricky bit. Not really, just glacier ice with a bunch of water and slush on top.
Last few hundred vertical meters are nice and snow good in the sunshine.
Mandatory lunch break self pose. Large areas of the glacier are covered with plastic sheets so that the thing won't wet itself away.
Morning sunshine turned into a rain shower so I decided to head down.
But then the showers got hard, wind picked up and lightning hit, many times. And the lift stopped. After every flash and gaboom!
Half an hour later I finally made it to the middle station where a whole lot of hail was on the ground. Would be nice to ski that stuff?
That was Hintertux in July 2012. If I find a job, maybe I'll be back in September/October.
Cheers,
-Mikko
